Our Story

Rosewater is a year-round Market & Take Away Food establishment located in historic downtown Edgartown, on the magical island of Martha’s Vineyard. Our passion is sourcing and serving the best food products possible - from fresh baked goods & prepared foods made in house to specialty products from the island and beyond.

As a year-round business, built by island residents, our commitment to the Vineyard runs deep. We call Martha’s Vineyard home, and welcome ideas and feedback from our neighbors to help us continuously improve the Rosewater experience. Share your thoughts directly with Julia or Tina, or simply send an email to [email protected]

Meet the Team

Julia

Julia Celeste first washed ashore in 2000 as a summer kid. After 13 years of long glorious summers and an assortment of island jobs, she became a year-round resident in 2013. Julia has worked in restaurants since her teen years, and most recently partnered with Tina to manage Flatbread Pizza Company on MV for the past two summers. At Rosewater, Julia leads the front-of-the-house and market side of the operation, curating Rosewater Market’s combination of everyday essentials with artisanal favorites from the island and beyond.

Tina

Tina Miller, a Martha’s Vineyard native, trained at La Verenne in France and cooked at famed restaurants in Los Angeles and Philadelphia. She was the chef/owner of two beloved Vineyard restaurants, the Roadhouse and Cafe Moxie; a private chef; and the author of Vineyard Harvest, A Year of Good Food on Martha’s Vineyard (2005). Tina leads Rosewater’s made-to-order kitchen fare, prepared meals and growing catering operation; and embodies our desire to prepare healthy, unfussy foods served without preaching or pretension.

Christopher & Nancy

Christopher Celeste & Nancy Kramer are serial entrepreneurs and seasonal residents who first came to the Vineyard in 2003, were married here in 2007, and built a home for their blended family of six children in 2009. Part of their commitment to Martha’s Vineyard has been to invest in for-impact causes & companies in order to support the year-round population and preserve the island’s unique combination of slow-paced, nature-filled, human-scaled living. Their primary role at Rosewater is as investor partners and hands-on cheerleaders for their enormously talented operating partners Tina & Julia.

Our Space

Originally built in the early 1800’s as a small grocery store by Samuel Pent, our location on 20 South Summer St. in downtown Edgartown has had many retail lives over the years. We’re happy to bring a year-round pedestrian market back to the village with an updated space that tips its hat to the past while welcoming the next generation of shoppers to South Summer Street.

Our Name

The Rosewater name was inspired by the fictional lead character, Eliot Rosewater, from Kurt Vonnegut’s classic “God Bless You Mr. Rosewater” who chose to forgo his family fortune in favor of spreading kindness in his small hometown.
